1923 fans are already fed up with Taylor Sheridan’s most “sadistic” habit
With the return ofTaylor Sheridan‘s 1923, many fans are quickly getting weary over theYellowstonecreator’s most obvious habit.
1923 comes after a wave of Sheridan premieres at the end of 2024. The final season of Yellowstone, Lioness Season 2, and the debut of Landman all kicked off in November, and for a while, the Dutton creator ruled the small screen.
But alongside the influx ofTV shows, there have also been a few complaints. Namely, one thing that always comes under fire with Sheridan’s latest releases is thehighly sexualised natureof his plots and characters.
Now that 1923 Season 2 has arrived, it’s clear this Yellowstone spinoff is no exception.
1923 viewers slam “disturbing” scenes
After the1923 Season 2 Episode 1premiere, fans have gone online to slam Taylor Sheridan’s “awful” scenes of sex and sexual assault, of which there are many.
The episode includes two particularly grim instances of the latter. The first happens when it’s revealed Donald Whitfield has been keeping an imprisoned young woman in his house for his pleasure, which he describes as his “doll.”
The other happens on Spencer’s ship, when he wakes up to discover one of his engine room colleagues is being raped by another man in the night.
On another, lighter note, Teonna is also shown attempting to sleep withPete Plenty Cloudswhile she’s on the run. Based on the feedback, it’s all a little much for viewers of the opening episode.
“What the hell is going on with TS?” oneRedditor wrote. “20 minutes into the first episode of Season 2, all 3 storylines involve sex. The good, bad and gross. Just boom in your face right away and nonstop. I watched and loved Landman, but Ainsley was so over-sexualized it was cringe to watch. Why is everything in his shows revolve around sex?”

“That whole scenario going on with the Tim Dalton character and those girls is disgusting and gratuitous,” another agreed. “I fast-forwarded over it, but I swear if there’s much more of that going on, I’ll just skip the series altogether even though I really really want Spencer to come home and help out Cara.”
“I turned it off when the next awful sex scene involving the ship, Spencer, other passengers happened. Like what the actual hell,” wrote a third.
Another added, “Dude I was just coming to make a post about this. Usually don’t mind sex scenes but this show has some pretty disturbing content.”
This isn’t the first time Sheridan has come under fire for this. BothLandman and Lioness were slammedfor similarly sexual undertones, most of which involving graphic conversations between parents and children.
