When she finally gives up Lady Whistledown, she does it for herself—Penelope is now confident enough to live boldly without hiding behind a pen name. So,she becomes a fiction writer and begins to craft novels.

The Lady Whistledown Reveals Are Drastically Different
Bridgertonseason 3 creates a critical difference in Penelope’s narrative: theLady Whistledown reveal occurs much earlier than it does in the book. InRomancing Mister Bridgerton, Penelope is 28 years old. However,she is 19 in the show, almost a decade younger than her book counterpart. Her purpose for Lady Whistledown also differs between the show and the book. InRomancing Mister Bridgerton, Penelope strictly uses Lady Whistledown to self-express without damaging people. Penelope has similar intentions in the show, but when she clashes with people like Marina or Eloise, she exposes them for petty reasons.
Romancing Mister Bridgertontakes place in the spring of 1824.
In the show, one of the people she hurts is Queen Charlotte, so it makes sense the queen plays a critical role in the Lady Whistledown reveal.Charlotte is not even a factor in theBridgertonbooksand does have a hand in unmasking Lady Whistledown. So, the outcome of Lady Whistledown’s reveal inBridgertonseason 3, episode 8, “Into The Light,” has to be different, since the queen is a major player.
Going forward,Penelope must prove that she can write a gossip column that adheres to the queen’s preferences. It is a different ending, but more fitting, since Penelope has made many more mistakes in the show than in the books.
