Summary
Batmanhas had many love interests over the years, but few have been as perfect for him asCatwoman. However, due to Catwoman’s history as a criminal and Batman’s intense paranoia, he’s never been able to truly start a relationship with her, but one story shows how they might just be able to work together as partners, in every sense of the word.
InDetective Comics#27 – by John Layman and Jason Fabok – readers are shown a twisted utopian version of Gotham City. Due to Scarecrow’s toxin making everyone see what they want to see, readers are treated to an idealized version of Gotham through a mass hallucination. One of the biggest changes is the fact Catwoman has given up being a criminal and is now Catbird.

Catbird is Batman’s partner, as she helps him fight crime and the two are also romantically involved, making this one of the more stable instances of their relationship so far.
[InDetective Comics#27] Selina becomes Catbird, a replacement for Robin, who is Batman’s most trusted partner. What this makes apparent is that if Selina could truly join Batman in his war on crime, they might finally be able to sustain a relationship.

“Catbird” Shows What Has To Happen For Bruce & Selina’s Love To Work
Detective Comics#27 – Written By John Layman, Jason Fabok, Tomeu Morey, & Jared K. Fletcher
There’s absolutely no denying thatBatman and Catwomanlove one another. Still, their different experiences in life have made it difficult to truly settle down with one another. Batman has a hard anti-crime stance, and Selina is a career criminal. Not only that, but Selina used to be one of Batman’s biggest villains. While she was never an outright killer, it wasn’t unusual to see her hanging out with the Riddler or the Joker. During the iconic ending of Jeph Loeb’sBatman: HushBatman rejects Selina’s advances due to his paranoia, believing that she may have been involved with Hush’s plans.
Selina’s eventual change from villain to anti-hero was so quick that Batman actually believed her mind may have been wiped by Zatanna at one point. While this is never proven to be true, it just shows how much Batman’s paranoia has gotten in the way of their relationship – and that’swhat the shared hallucination inDetective Comics#27 fixes.Selina becomes Catbird, a replacement for Robin, who is Batman’s most trusted partner. What this makes apparent is that if Selina could truly join Batman in his war on crime, they might finally be able to sustain a relationship.

Batman and Catwoman’s romance will likely always be complicated. If either one of them shifted their beliefs or desires just a bit, they’d be entirely perfect for the other – something demonstrated by Selina’s brief time as “Catbird.”
