Dept Q Season 2 might not happen, but there’s an alternative
Fans have been binging newNetflixseries Dept. Q like there’s no tomorrow, but while Season 2 isn’t exactly a guarantee, there’s another way of continuing the same thriller vibes.
There’s still a hefty wait in store for shows likeStranger Things Season 5andWednesday Season 2, but thestreaming servicehas pulled out all the stops when it comes to newNetflix thrillers. Dept. Q follows Carl, a former top-rated detective, wracked with guilt following an attack that left his partner paralysed and another policeman dead.

On his return to work, Carl is assigned to a cold case that will consume his life. The crime drama has already been described as rigorous, grimy, and gothic by early reviews, despite a fewproblems on the platform(but hopefully, we’re past them now).
If you’ve binged the new episodes already, all that’s left to do is wait for news on Season 2. Or is there? There’s another way to relive the experience, if you know where to look.

Has Netflix renewed Dept Q for Season 2?
As of writing, there’s no word on whether Dept. Q will get a second season. It wasn’t marketed as a limited series, so there’s immediate confusion over whether more episodes will ever be made.
If you’ve seen all nine episodes, you’ll know the penultimate one revealed the two people responsible for Merritt’s kidnapping (we’ll avoid spoilers here, though). Our final scene saw Hardy return to the department, now able to walk on crutches.

How many seasons of From are there?
Moira told him she had a case for him to look at, before joining Morck, Akram, and Rose in the basement. From this alone, we’d have reason enough to believe there’s potential for a second season.

As Season 1 released, lead actor Matthew Goode expressed enthusiasm for continuing the series, saying “that’s the hope” to Yahoo UK.
“I was saying to Scott the other day, what we really need to do is, A, Season 2, and we need to get Alexej into eight weeks of Krav Maga training so the fight scenes in Season 2 can be amazing. It’s going to be a sort of Syrian Bourne,” hecontinued.
Co-star Chloe Pirrie added, “I’d love to see more. When I watched the episodes, I was just like these characters are such fun to be with – especially for me, because there’s so much work I didn’t see. I wasn’t around because I was on my own.
“So I just loved meeting all those characters on the screen and I just think ‘I’ve got to spend more time with these people.’ They’re so great, I would love to see more of it personally, even though I’m in it! But I think we wanna follow them along, I want to see that team do more stuff together.”
How to watch the original Department Q movies
However, there is an alternative. Dept. Q is based on the book series by Jussi Adler-Olsen, which was previously adapted into Department Q movies from 2013-2024. More films are expected to be adapted from 2026.
In its entirety, the full film roster looks like this:
The first five movies in this list can be watched on Amazon Prime Video, with the first two also available to buy or rent on Google Play and Apple TV.
As Boundless is the most recent release, it might be a little while until we see it join the Prime Video ranks. International fans can find it on MUBI.
Even if Dept. Q doesn’t get renewed for Season 2, we’ve still got four more films confirmed over the next seven years, so make sure you’re locked in (pun intended).
