Gojo and Geto Both Suffered the Same Tragic Fate
Although they Fought on Opposite Sides, Both of Their Stories Ended Similarly
Geto Suguru’s life story was characterized by tragedy, making him somewhat of a sympathetic character before he eventually fell into cruelty and evil and became a cult leader. He started out as a very skilled sorcerer who was able to absorb curses and their powers simply by consuming them. However, this ability was not as wonderful as it may sound and the process of curse absorption took a huge physical and mental toll on the sorcerer. Geto shifted further away from Jujutsu society until, eventually,he saw no point in exorcising curses and decided to start killing non-sorcerersinstead.
Gojo, Geto’s previous best friend, was horrified by his turn towards evil. It was not easy for Gojo to fight against his best friend and cope with the heartwrenching betrayal, but his dedication to protecting humanity spurred him on. After years apart, the pair reunited inJujutsu Kaisen 0,as Geto tried to take down Yuta and Rika. Geto did not survive this last battle and Gojo was by his side until his dying breath, reuniting the severed friendship back together one final time. Gojo and Geto had vastly different worldviews and experiences, butone new, horrifying similarity connects the two sorcerers.

Most fans are well aware that after the events ofJujutsu Kaisen 0,theevil sorcerer Kenjaku unfortunately took possession of Geto’s body. Geto was very powerful and had a connection with Gojo, the world’s strongest sorcerer, which Kenjaku saw as advantages that could assist him in his devious plans.By cleverly using Geto’s corpse as a vessel, he caught Gojo completely by surprisein the season 2Shibuya Incident Arcand sealed the sorcerer in the Prison Realm, giving him more freedom to do whatever he wanted without the threat of Gojo’s interference looming over his head.
Gojo was absolutely horrified and flabbergasted to see someone else piloting Geto’s body, but little did he knowhe would ironically suffer the same fatelater in the story. In manga chapter #261, with the help of Shoko, the sorcererYuta Okkotsu takes over Gojo’s bodyto fight against Sukuna. The Jujutsu sorcerers have not had much luck against the King of Curses thus far, so in a last-ditch effort, Yuta enacted his macabre plan to utilize Gojo’s incredible techniques against the curse by transplanting himself into Gojo’s body just like Kenjaku did to Geto.

This Connection Between Gojo and Geto Is Horrifyingly Ironic
In a Bittersweet and Devastating Way, the Sorcerers Are Still Connected Even in Death
It is devastatingly ironic that both sorcerers wound up in the exact same heartbreaking situation, even though they held opposite beliefs on the value of humanity and followed divergent paths during their lives. Geto attempted to wipe out non-sorcerers, while Gojo fought with all of his might to shield those very same people from dangerous curses. But, both men lost their lives as a result of the battle and, unfortunately, were unable to rest in peace after the fact. Sadly, the sorcerer’s bodies were taken by others andused as weapons in the same fight that killed them both.
Despite their best efforts, Gojo and Geto both became victims of the seemingly endless war between curses and sorcerers and even perished as a result of the never-ending violence. They both started their time at Jujutsu High full of life and optimism, but quickly became beaten down and traumatized, even causing Geto to switch sides entirely. The fact that they share the same fate in the end is horrifying, but at the same time bittersweet to see that the manga creator, Gege Akutami,is still connecting these two characters who loved one another so deeplyin yet another interesting way.

The Series Gives a Realistic Depiction of the Damage and Trauma War Causes
Other animes likeAttack on Titanpossess a staunchly anti-war sentiment, and Gojo and Geto’s journeys could certainly cause one to wonder ifJujutsu Kaisenmight share a similar message. The violence and bloodshed of the battle between curses and sorcerers has ruined a great many lives. Two of the most talented sorcerers who were full of potential were led to early graves, and later became pawns in the fight a second time without their knowledge. The ending ofJujutsu Kaisenis not yet known, but the current situation is very bleak, and the violence seems to be a never-ending and dangerous cycle that harms everyone involved.
Gojo and Geto’s lives, as well as those of everyone else involved, would have played out very differently had the battle never occurred. The series is chillingly realistic and represents the irreparable damage war causes in the real world too. Either way, it is almost touching in a bittersweet way to see that,even in death, Gojo and Geto are still connected on some unfortunate level. Viewers can only hope that the clash between sorcerers and curses ends soon and that these two belovedJujutsu Kaisensorcerers will finally receive the rest and freedom from the fighting they so dearly deserve.
