Kai Cenat explains why he refused to be paid for BET Awards appearance
Twitch star Kai Cenat has explained why he won’t take money for his appearances at events like the BET Awards after he was given all-access.
Over the last few years,Kai Cenat’s internet success has started translating to the mainstream. The AMP star has appeared in State Farm adverts, spoke to Jimmy Fallon about his Mafiathon success, and had tonnes of celebrities join him on stream.

On June 9, Kai appeared at the BET Awards alongside Kevin Hart and Druski. The Twitch star mingled with different artists in the crowd, got to present an award alongside his friends, and had the freedom of the backstage.
Given his online audience, the Twitch star could very easily demand big money and benefits for his appearances at these events. However, he doesn’t, and he’s got a good reason as to why.

Kai Cenat won’t take payment to appear at events
The AMP star went live on June 12 to discuss his appearance at the awards show, and even cleared up the fact that he didn’t recognise rapper Wale when they first come across each other.
“Money comes with a certain narrative that you’ve gotta push. So, if you get paid to go to certain things, they’re going to want you to speak good, and only good, about these things,” Kai said.

“So, that’s why I don’t really like be taking it because its like ‘we paid you to be here and why you not acting like?’ That’s where it gets dangerous and that’s why I say you’re able to’t take money in a lot of situations, it’s not good for you. You’re limited to your truth in certain situations.”
