Pirate Software responds to claims he “killed” Stop Killing Games movement
Pirate Software has responded to claims that he “killed” the Stop Killing Games movement with his criticism of the petition.
TheStop Killing Games movement was launched back in mid-2024by YouTuber Ross Scott – better known as AccursedFarms. It wants to stop publishers ‘killing’ games once developers have ended support for games.
Plenty of gamers and content creators have gotten behind the movement, but Pirate Software has been a critic. In August 2024, the Twitch streamer stated that SKG was too “vague” in its aims. “The movement is essentially asking for rights that don’t exist while ignoring the extensive protections that already do,” he stated in a blog.
The streamer has stepped away from Ludwig’s OffBrand Games studio too, as his criticism of the petition led to Rivals of Aether 2 being review-bombed.

Pirate Software has also been accused of “killing” the movement’s momentum, a claim that he isn’t having.
“The most interesting narrative is that my videos somehow “killed” the initiative. This graph shows that the initiative already had a downward trend in interest when my videos dropped. My videos do not seem to have had any impact on the movement at all,” he posted on X (formerly Twitter).

The attached graph does show a small drop off of daily signatures before Pirate Software posted his video about SKG. Yet, there is a much bigger drop-off following it’s release.
Stop Killing Games has also surpassed it’s goal of getting 1 million signatures on the petition. That push came after a number of content creators threw their weight behind the movement, including PewDiePie.

It remains to be seen what the next steps will lead to now that Stop Killing Games has beaten it’s original goal.
