Though not immediately obvious,Spy x Family’s protagonists, Loid and Yor, may have more in common with Henry and Martha than fans think. Despite the two couples' stories taking place decades apart, one can note immediateparallels between their outlook on war, their motivations, and even their chosen method of achieving and preserving peace.
While Loid and Henry have chosen intellectual pursuits, both Yor and Martha can be seen taking the more direct, yet brutal path. Both Loid and Henry are forced to acknowledge their own ignorance and helplessness, while Yor and Martha both take extreme steps to protect what’s precious to them, even if they have to resort to violence to do so. While Loid most certainly resorts to violence when absolutely necessary, he does not view it as the answer, as seen from the very moment he decides to join WISE. In fact, the entire goal of Operation Strix is to gain information and use it to prevent a full-blown conflict between Ostania and the West.

Simply put, Loid values information above all, while Henry places importance on education. While their career paths may be different, bothLoid and Henry seemingly share the common belief that it is ignorance that sows discord, breeds grudges and causes people to pick up weapons without knowing why.
Meanwhile, Yor and Martha can be viewed as strict realists, and it is very much their circumstances that have made them so. Yor was forced to step up and take care of Yuri at a very young age after losing their parents in the war, while the latest chapters depict how Martha’s dreams were crushed when the ballet company she was supposed to join was killed in an air raid. Thoughthey turn to violence, they both believe it to be the only reliable way to maintain peace.
Even if Loid and Yor do notever cross paths as Twilight and Thorn Princess, it is still doubtful whether they will be able to meet each other in the middle or set aside their ideological differences. While they might be able to form an allegiance based on the fact that they share the same goal, they will likely disagree on the method of doing so, and such a disagreement may destroy Loid and Yor’s chances of ending up together romantically.
Loid and Yor’s Chances of a Happy Ending are Slim But Not Non-Existent
Anya May Be the Uniting Factor Between Them
Given the wall of lies and secrets between them, Loid and Yor’s chances are slim, but Anya may end up influencing them. After all, the reason Loid and Yor do what they do is to protect innocent children just like Anya and she might just motivate them to try and work together.Anya’s telepathic powers also help prevent one key issue that plagued Henry and Martha, which was their lack of communication and their inability to express their feelings.
Overall, it is certainly quite unusual forSpy x Familyto delve into the backstory of a minor character in such great detail. So far, the series has only revealed Loid’s backstory in full and snippets of Yor’s. Fans are stillin the dark about even Anya’s origins, which only means that Henry and Martha’s backstory must serve a greater purpose. That said, it might be some time before Henry’s backstory asserts its significance. The romance between Loid and Yor has been incredibly slow to develop, which means fans will hopefully get to enjoy watching their warm, wholesome relationship evolve for a little longer before all the angst truly kicks in.
