This post contains a PREVIEW forStar Wars: Darth Vader #47

Summary

Star Warshas confirmed thatDarth Vaderwas at his most powerful right before the events ofReturn of the Jedi. Seeking new forms of power in a bid to overthrow his master Emperor Palpatine, Vader’s efforts in his ongoing and canonical Marvel Comics series have seen theDark Lord returning to Exegol, looking to claim power from Palpatine himself. To that end, the full scope of Vader’s newly acquired sources of power is quite impressive.

As seen in the new preview forDarth Vader #47by Greg Pak and Raffaele Ienco, Vader and his allies known as the Schism Imperial have succeeded in “The Razing of Exegol”, having defeated several of Palpatine’s Sith Eternal cultists and claiming the Emperor’s massive piece of bled and corrupted kyber crystal. As confirmed by the Schism’s Sly Moore in this new first look, there is now so much incredible power in the hands of Vader himself:

Liam Neeson as Qui-Gon Jinn from Star Wars The Phantom Menace, Mark Hamill as Luke Skywalker from Star Wars A New Hope, Daisy Ridley as Rey from Star Wars The Force Awakens

While it’s not yet known what Vader plans to do with this new kyber exactly, one can imagine that it will be paired with the other new sources of power the Dark Lord has recently claimedin the name of trying to destroy his master once and for all in theStar Warstimeline.

Darth Vader’s New Power Explained

Building Forces Against Palpatine

Having realized betweenEmpire Strikes BackandReturn of the Jedithat Palpatine could easily remove Vader’s resources at will, the Dark Lord began seeking ways to claim new power beyond his master’s purview in recent issues of Marvel’sDarth Vader. This included an alliance with theSchism Imperial, a group of disgruntled bureaucrats and officers wanting Palpatine removed from his throne. Vader also recently acquired a squad of Rebel cyborgs known as the M.A.R Corps whom Vader darkly reprogrammed to serve him against their will.

Together, Darth Vader, the Schism, and the M.A.R. Corps claimed an advanced droid army, as well as a device capable of creating a devastating new power source by draining the energies of entire planets. Now,Vader and his new forces have claimed this gigantic piece of red kyber, offering the Dark Lord the potential to destroy entire worlds, seeing how large pieces of kyber were what powered the Death Stars. However, perhaps Vader will reveal more unique plans for this new red kyber when the full issue is released.

Vader Was At His Most Powerful Before Episode VI

(But Palpatine Will Still Be His Master)

It can certainly be argued that Vader was at his most powerful beforeReturn of the Jedi. This is especially true when considering the kinds of power Vader has been after, that which can’t be so easily taken away by Palpatine. However, the ultimate truth is that it doesn’t matter as Vader will still bend the knee to Palpatineat the beginning of Episode VI. All of Darth Vader’s new power is destined to soon fail in future issues. That said, Vader’s defeat is bound to be very entertaining while also cementing the idea that Palpatine’s defeat was only ever going to come from Vader’s redemption.
