Summary
A newStarfieldmod greatly expands the possibilities for character creation, including a much-needed feature that should’ve been included at launch.Mods can greatly improve theStarfieldexperience: whether they change the visuals, improve enemy AI, or even just overhaul the user interface, they allow players to customize their gameplay beyond the simple, surface-level changes provided by in-game settings. But while some mods can turnStarfieldinto an entirely different game, sometimes, the best ones focus on making a single aspect of the game as good as it can be.
A newStarfieldmod called “Body Custom Sliders for All Vanilla Outfits- ABT (Any Body Type),” posted on NexusMods byspaceXael, allows playersfar greater freedom over body type during character creation. It comes with a variety of presets, but also adds highly specific body sliders to the character customization menu. By opening this with the related CharGenMenu mod, players can directly adjust the sizes of very specific joints, muscles, and proportions. However, where most mods like this tend to cause body parts to warp or clip through clothing, this one is programmed to work with all vanilla outfits right out of the box.

Why Starfield Needs A Character Customization Mod
Starfield’s Default Body Proportions Are Lacking
Starfield’s character customization is pretty goodoverall, butits most in-depth options all pertain to the protagonist’s face. This is where the most sliders can be found: carefully adjusting things like nostril height, ear angle, and eye separation are among the options available. That’s all well and good, and can help players make either perfect self-insert avatars, idealized versions of themselves, or celebrity lookalikes.
Things fall apart a bit, though, when it comes to body customization options.Starfielduses a slightly modified version of the “body triangle,“first introduced inFallout 4. It presents a three-pronged spider chart, one point each of which represents a “muscular” body type, a “thin” body type, and a “heavy” body type. Players can choose any point between these three, or tilt the scales all the way in any direction to find a balance between these three very generic body types.

While the ABT mod doesn’t have support for modded-in outfits just yet, the creator is working on them, and takes specific requests.
Butwhen it comes to more detailed customizations, there’s nothing to be found. Want to make a character with a muscular upper half who skipped one too many leg days, or someone with broad shoulders and narrow hips? No such thing. There’s some flexibility in the middle ground of all three body types, but at the end of the day, it basically comes down to one of three body type choices.
The ABT mod fixes this by granting players moreSims-like body customizationoptions. While they won’t be sculpting their Starborns' bodies as if they’re made out of clay, they will be able to create a similar effect with a wealth of new sliders. These give them the ability to customize individual body parts to their hearts' content by directly affecting the size and shape of each point.
No video game will ever be able to truly capture the near-infinite range of body diversity exhibited by the human race. That said, many games do try.Starfieldmay support a wider range of body types than the typical RPG, but sacrifices customizability for simplicity. This makes character creation a bit easier, but ultimately prevents many players from being able to see themselves in their protagonists. Thankfully,Starfieldmods like ABT fix this by allowing for a wider range of options.

Starfield
Bethesda Game Studios presents Starfield - the first original IP from the studio in twenty-five-plus years. Set in the year 2310, the United Colonies and Freestar Collective are observing a shaky truce after a war set 20 years prior. The player will customize their character as a member of a space exploration team called Constellation while navigating The Settled Systems and the conflicts between the warring factions. According to Bethesda, players can explore over 100 systems and 1000 planets to find resources and build their ships, living out their own sci-fi journeys.
