Summary

The filmWonderfeatures a talented cast that combines child actors with more veteran talent. Based on theNew York Timesbestselling R.L. Palacio YA novel of the same name,Wonder, which was well-reviewed,tells the story of Auggie Pullman, a young boy born with a rare craniofacial disorder called Treacher-Collins syndrome. When Auggie enters a mainstream school for the first time, he is faced with the challenge of making new friends and experiencing bullying as he navigates the complex world of fifth grade.

Both the book and film versions ofWonderare explorations of what it is like to be a child with a physical, visible, disability.Somewhat controversially,Wondercast Jacob Tremblay — who does not have a physical disability — to lead the film. A series of prosthetics and other makeup tools were used to make Tremblay appear like Auggie in the way he is described in Palacio’s novel. In addition to Tremblay, theWondercast includes a varied set of highly-regarded actors.
